Course contents :
| This practical course in cultural criticism addresses the background to cultural broadcasting and its origins: history, creation, directing and production. The working tools of journalism will be specifically used to tackle different creative fields, whether that be cinema, television, theatre, books or fine art. Part of the course is devoted to drafting articles and texts designed to be published, notably in "Culture", the cultural website developed by the University of Liege. |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| - To develop a rigorous and attractive style of writing which does not hamper the expression of individuality and subjectivity.
- To articulate a critical analysis of a cultural subject matter, by using personal pieces of work which should take into account the constraints within which a cultural journalist operates (choice of subjects, approach, types of audiences, writing deadlines, different media). |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| - A personal interest in cultural matters and a good knowledge of current affairs in this area.
- Regular attendance at places where cultural productions are presented (cinema, theatre, exhibitions, publishing ...) and the media forms behind them.
- A good understanding of writing and of the French language. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| The course is organised as an interactive workshop, from september, two-hour sessions. Students are requested to carry out different types of writing exercises in cultural fields assigned to them and of their own choice, with the aim of using various media: print media, radio, websites.
