OCEA0025-2  Dynamics of nutrients in marine environment, part II : ecological processes

Duration :  7,5h Th, 7,5h Pr, 10h FW
Number of credits :
Master in oceanography, Research focus, 2nd yearFirst semester2
Lecturer :  Anne Goffart
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
The aim of the course is to bring to the students an integrated and pluridisciplinar approach of the dynamics of nutrients in marine systems, in relation with the analysis of physical constraints and ecological processes which control trophic flows.

Learning outcomes of the course :
- Control of nutrient dynamics in the ocean by ecological processes

- Control of seasonal phytoplankton communities by nutrient dynamics in reference areas (example of the Bay of Calvi, Corsica)

- Impact of anthropogenic activities and climate changes on nutrient availability and plankton biodiversity, including toxic and harmful species

- Assistance to the integrated management of coastal marine environment according to the European regulations (e.g. Water Framework Directive)
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Basics in
- biological oceanolography
- planctonology
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
According to orientation of the students, measurements in the field (Calvi, Corsica) and in the laboratory (Liège)
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
4 x 2 hours Th
1 x 8 hours Pr
10 hours on the field
Recommended or required readings :
Reference scientific papers
Assessment methods and criteria :
Oral examination
