Course contents :

| History of western music and the beginnings of plainsong at the end of the Renaissance. The main stages in writing music, the functions of music and its societal conditions. |

| Knowledge of the major facts concerning the history of western music from 600 to 1600, both from a theoretical (names, concepts, dates, etc.) and a practical point of view (identifying the main trends through listening). |
