The complementary master in psychiatry has for objective to provide the theoretical, clinical and therapeutical bases enabling the practice of the specialisation in psychiatry including child psychiatry and psychogeriatrics. The teaching is organised in three parts:

- a systematic clinical description of the various psychiatric illnesses with their symptomatology, their definition and classification, the various etiopathogenic mechanisms taken into account on the biological, psychological and social point of view and the various therapeutic approaches, particularly pharmacologic and psychotherapic;

- a systematic training to the various therapeutic approaches taken into account on the theoretical level as well as from clinical examples, particularly of psychopharmacologic, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, cognitivo-behavioral and systemic;

- a training to various specific aspects such as projective tests, forensic psychiatry and evaluation, clinical psychophysiology and the psychological and psychiatric aspects of palliative care.

This teaching integrates the various clinical and therapeutic approaches in order to provide to the student the competencies needed to establish the diagnosis, to assess the various pathogenic factors and to know the bases of the various therapeutic approaches. In addition to the theoretical aspects, the teaching is based on discussions of case reports provided by the participants. The training is combined with trainings in psychiatry and provide to obtain the competencies necessary to practice psychiatry including child psychiatry and psychogeriatrics.
