Course contents :  
Statics: force systems, equilibrium, structures, center of mass and centroids, distributed forces, friction
Kinematics of particles: rectilinear motion, plane curvilinear motion, rectangular coordinates, normal and tangential coodinates, relative motion
Kinetics of particles: equation of motion and solution of problems, rectilinear motion, curvilinear motion, general theorems
Plane kinematics of rigid bodies: absolute motion, relative velocity, instantaneous center of zero velocity, relative acceleration
Plane kinetics of rigid bodies: general equations of motion, translation, mass moments of inertia, fixed-axis rotation, general plane motion, general theorems
Learning outcomes of the course :  
After completing the course the student is expected to

  • Construct free-body diagrams
  • Establish and solve the equilibrium equations to find reactions and internal forces
  • Establish and solve the equations of motion for particles and rigid bodies
