| Duration : | 25h Th, 15h Pr |
| Number of credits : |
| Lecturer : | Pierre Mathonet |
Language(s) of instruction :
| French language |
Course contents :
| This course is an introduction to discrete mathematics. We will introduce the following topics : combinatorics, graph theory, game theory, Boolean functions... |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| Students should know and be able to apply the theory explained in the course. This should also reinforce concepts used in other courses in the first year of mathematics through applications or analogies. |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| Some basics of mathematics (secondary school-college) are necessary.
Some parts of the lectures also rely on the other courses of the first year study in the bachelor of Mathematics. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| The theory will be presented in the courses as well as some illustrations. The practical lessons will be devoted to exercises. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| Face-to-face. The schedule of the lectures and exercise sessions is established by the department of mathematics. |
Recommended or required readings :
| Lecture notes will be available for students during the lectures. |
Assessment methods and criteria :
| The final grade is a weighted mean of the grades obtained for the two parts of the exam :
-the written part for exercises
-the oral part for the theory where students are asked to present some topics of the theory as well as solving elementary applications.
Students should participate in both evaluations. |
