Course contents :  
The course will begin with an introduction to the historical and sociological background to the literatures of the African diaspora. The rest of the course will be devoted to the discussion of selected novels, plays and films addressing various facets of the notion of masculinity.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of the course, students are expected to master the main theoretical notions pertaining to the study of masculinity and gender in literature. They will be able to use these notions in the textual analysis of literary works from the African diaspora.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
A good knowledge of English.
