Course contents :

| This supplementary English language module focuses on speaking and writing in the areas covered by the corresponding law classes taught in English
It will the vocabulary relevant to European law, environmental law, American law, and funds industry.
The course will also deal with language functions such as oral interaction in the classroom, oral presentations or case briefs. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| At the end of this module, students' legal English skills in an academic environment will have improved.
Students will better at speaking in English during law classes. They will be better prepared to give efficient oral presentations and draft short texts using the right grammar and vocabulary. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| As the active participation of students is essential to this course, the size of the groups will not exceed 25 students. In class, students will be given the chance to learn new grammar and vocabulary tools and / or to brush up on their existing vocabulary and grammar skills, which they will then apply to speaking and writing activities. These activities will pertain directly to their law classes taught in English. |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| This in-class module consists of ten weekly 90-minute sessions.
Students will be required to prepare their courses at home and to participate actively in class. |

| Practicalities about course material will be provided during the information meeting on September 21st. |

Assessment methods and criteria :
 |
| There will not be an examination at the end of this module since its aim is to help students to improve their language skills in the examinations of his or her core courses taught in English.
However, students will be required to sign up for the module before the first class and to show their commitment by attending regularly. If a student signs up for the course but does not attend a minimum of 75% of classes, a note will be sent about it to the President of his or her examination jury. |

Organizational remarks :

| An information session about the practicalities of this module will be held on September 21st 2011 at 1PM in room Tocqueville, B31.
Students who have chosen to attend a law class in English will have to take an on-line placement test, which will be available from September 22nd to September 30th.
Depending on the result of the test, students whose level is not satisfactory will be encouraged to take the module. Any student whose level was deemed unsatisfactory and who does not want to take the module is required to motivate his decision in an email sent to Ms C. Hougardy by October 5th 2011.
Students who have passed the test are still welcome to join, provided there are enough spaces in the groups. Students can sign up on line until October 7th.
The first classes will be held during the week of October 10th. |
