Course contents :
|
| Oral and written activities based on texts and articles dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
| Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing.
Enhancing students' ability to cope with English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).
Allowing students to speak about various topics related to psychology through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| The level of this course corresponds to the European level C1. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the second- and third-year level-B courses (B2-C1) in the bachelor's degree and/or in the 1st-year level-B course (B2-C1) in the master's degree. |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| Students are required to prepare the units from the coursebook for the inclass course and do exercises marked "eCampus" online. This preparation work varies in time depending on the students' previous knowledge. |

Assessment methods and criteria :
|
| 1. Continuous assessment (1/20)
A mark out of 1 for active class participation, if you attend at least 75% of the classes
2. Written assignment (2/20)
A 1/2-page abstract of an article chosen by you for the oral exam
A 1 1/2-page summary of the same article
3. Listening comprehension exam in May and August (2/20)
4. Oral presentation in class (3/20)
You will be asked to give a presentation on one of the texts from the textbook
(in groups of 4-5 students)
5. Oral exam in May and August (4/20)
20-minute discussion based on one text from the textbook and one text of your own choice related to one of the topics from the textbook (see "Written assignment" above).
6. Written exam in May and August (8/20)
Reading comprehension exercises based on an unseen text.
Vocabulary exercises based on the units in the textbook.
Grammar exercises based on the units in the textbook.
Writing exercises based on the units in the textbook (definitions and comparisons).
N.B. The marks obtained for in-class work and the oral presentation count for both exam sessions in May/January and August. |
