Course contents :

| The curriculum in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine comprises English language courses, which aim to give students a thorough command of written and spoken English in the field of veterinary medicine.
The purpose of the first-year course is :
(1) to enable students to revise general English (CEFRL levels B1-B2 for reading) and
(2) to introduce the basic vocabulary of veterinary Medicine
in semi-autonomy (i.e. through guided self-learning). |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| The first-year English course is a levelling course which aims to revise the elements of general English and to introduce the scientific vocabulary. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
 |
| Basic knowledge of general English grammar and vocabulary (A2 or B1 level). |
 |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| On top of the self-learning tasks based on a schedule posted online, the students will do three self-assessment tests for which they will receive a detailed feedback and which will be corrected in class. |
 |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
 |
| This course is a blended course. Most of it takes place online but there are a few classes and meetings during the year. It consists of:
- a first self-assessment test (MCT with reading comprehension & English in use questions) followed by in-class review of mistakes and grammatical explanations.
-
12 online modules with guided and supervised self-learning units and grammar (revision) exercises with key.
- 4 online grammar progress tests.

Self-assessment tests (with detailed feedback and in-class correction) in February and March/April.

| (1) Online tailor-made e-campus modules,
(2) Online interactive grammar exercises http://www.islv.ulg.ac.be and
(3) The course book which contains the veterinary English articles of the e-campus modules, a self-study grammar course with exercises (and key online), the vocabulary of the course, and previous exams. |

Assessment methods and criteria :
 |
| Four grammar progress tests to be done online.
Three self-assessment tests (reading comprehension and English in use MCTs of intermediate - B1/B2 levels) with detailed feedback in September, early February and late March.
Written exam consisting of reading comprehension, vocabulary and English in use MCTs of post-intermediate B2 level in June. |
