This course aims at developing and strengthening communication skills in both everyday and business contexts.
Course contents:
explanation & discussion of recent articles / audio or video documents on socio-economic, financial, (inter-)cultural or political topics.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Strenghtening communication practice in everyday Dutch.

Mastery of business Dutch in situations requiring oral communication (listening comprehension; speaking) & written communication (reading comprehension, writing documents, roleplay).
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
B2-level: mastery of everyday Dutch & basic "technical" vocabulary.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
2 hours spread over 12 weeks
The course is mainly organized as a seminar (there are about 30 students in a group) implying the active participation of students. Students will be asked to prepare (in advance) the exercises and documents on which the course is based.
  • oral exercises: debates, conversation clubs, business simulations.
  • writing exercises: written reports, summary of lectures.
  • listening comprehension exercises.
  • exercises aiming at developing the acquisition of "technical" vocabulary.

  • Néerlandais presse audio (advanced level): method to improve the listening comprehension (De Boeck, January 2010)
Assessment methods and criteria :  
2 credit course (L3 Dutch - optional course / master in 2 years):
  • listening comprehension (1/5 of the global mark)
  • written exam (2/5):
- test based on the vocabulary and the contents of the multimedia files
  • oral exam (2/5)
oral examination about the multimedia files and open questions about management, economy and society in general
Criteria for evaluation:
  • Listening comprehension test: capacity to understand and formulate the main ideas of a broadcast.
  • Written tests: knowledge of the specific vocabulary and the grammatical structures accurate language quality of the contents
  • Oral test: accuracy and fluency quality of the contents capacity to defend one's point of view
