  • The different dictionaries;
  • How to read and to use a dictionary?
  • Homonymy and polysemy;
  • Wordformation (esp. in Germanic languages)
  • Brief historical survey of the discipline and of its problems and methods
Learning outcomes of the course :  
  • To introduce students to the basic concepts and terms
  • To lead students to a better use of dictionaries
  • To introduce students to the major problems and methods of linguistics
  • With especial emphasis on Germanic languages

Good knowledge of French
