Course contents :
 |
| This course deals with every important aspect of Dutch and Flemish society and civilization (institutions, political parties, media, education, religion, etc.) but also with the history and the physical, economic and social geography of the Netherlands and Flanders. History, arts and cultural life are the most important parts of the course. Special attention is paid to popular culture (especially music) and contemporary politics. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| This course is meant to provide the student with the necessary background to understand Dutch and Flemish culture, to stimulate reflection upon his or her own culture and upon interculturality and finally to stimulate a critical attitude towards all sources of information, especially towards the media. |

| Good comprehension of spoken and written Dutch. |

| Oral exam in June. A few written assignments, which are scheduled during the course, will be taken into account to determine the final result of the exam. |
