Course contents :  
Historical background. Species and populations. Role of the natural selection. Speciation. Punctuated equilibrium or phyletic gradualism? Fossil record. Ontogenesis and phylogenesis. Heterochrony . Exemples of specific evolution from the fossil record. Macroevolution. Genetic evolution. Morphological limits of the diversification. Conclusions.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Study of the morphological processes of evolution in species.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Basic knowledge in palaeontology and biology.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
First period of the odd years. The course is on thursday from 2 to 4 pm, during the first period. Lecture room is in building B18, Sart Tilman (animal palaeontology, department of geology). It will start thursday 22 September.
