Learning outcomes of the course :
1) Master the basic notions of uni- and bivariate statistics. Understand the importance of a quantitative approach in geosciences. 2) Be able to make use of graphical display, exploratory data anlysis and statistical analysis tools used in geology. 3) Be able to analyse the distribution laws generated by different geological processes and to compare them to the theoretical laws available for modelling. 4) Be acquainted with the use of software tools for data processing
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Néant
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
TP 1 : Introduction to Statistica
TP 2 : Visualisation and data conversion
TP 3 : Analysis and characterisation of experimental distributions
TP 4 : Univariate statistical analysis
TP 5 : Analysis of experimental correlations
TP 6 : Modelling of correlations
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Theory : 2nd Semester - Monday 10:30-12:30

Practice - Computer labs : 2nd Semester - Tuesday 08:30-12:30
Recommended or required readings :
Copy of PPT used for teaching
Written notes : "Analyse Spatiale des Données Géo-Environnementales" (part) Recommended lecture: Swan & Sandilands, Introduction to Geological Data Analysis (contact U.D. Earth Sciences)
Assessment methods and criteria :
Oral examination after a written preparation of 30 minutes. The oral examination will privilege a practical perception of the concepts rather than a pure restitution of the theory.
