Course contents :  
The course is made of three main parts:

1. The major characteristics of land and property markets
1.1. Introduction to the economic concept of market
1.2. The "land" production factor and the production of the morphological urbanisation
1.3. The land is not produced: the land rent
1.4. The intervention of public authorities on land and property markets
1.5. The relationships between service markets and asset markets

2. The formation of land and property prices
2.1. Analysis of the housing service in pure concurrence
2.2. The hedonic approach of land and property markets
2.3. Property development and production cost evaluation
2.4. Property evaluation through the actualization method

3. The land market within the context of new residential urbanisations in Belgium
3.1. The socio-economic characteristics of the demand
3.2. Price levels and activity levels on residential land markets
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To integrate the comprehension of economic mechanisms in the field of land and property markets. To integrate technical, planning, juridical and economic diagnostics in order to develop an appraisal on the financial value of land and property goods. To integrate the comprehension of land and property mechanisms in the general organisation of urban spaces.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
To be open-minded concerning social and economic problems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Synthesis of scientific articles related to the field of land and property markets. Seminars based on the intervention of experts and professionals.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Alternatively phases of theoretical lectures, phases of student presentation and external experts presentation.
Recommended or required readings :  
Original written notes with ± 150 pages completed by illustrations (PowerPoint).
Assessment methods and criteria :  
The assessment will be realized in two steps:
1. via the workshops (1/4 of the quotation);
2. via an oral exam on the theoretical lectures (3/4 of the quotation).
