Course contents :  
The course is divided in three parts: Claire Remacle describes organellar genetics, Fabrice Franck describes photosynthesis evolution, while Denis Baurain discusses the views of the late Stephen Jay Gould, who was a great evolutionary biologist.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The two first parts of the course comprise practical and theoretical aspects. At the end of the third part, students will be able to summarize the essence of S. J. Gould's thinking.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Separation of respiratory complexes in non denaturating gels, photosynthetic pigments analysis by HPLC, etc.
Interactive analysis of a 1h recorded talk by Stephen Jay Gould. As the talk is in English and addresses a number of complex topics, the activity will last a full day (4x 1.5 h) to ensure proper understanding by all students.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
One week course.

PowerPoint presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Presentation and discussion of a research paper.
