Course contents :
This course proposes an overview and an application of the main principles and the most usual techniques used to optimize global performance in an organization, independently from its form. It focuses on the organisationnal strategic monitoring in a long-term perspective and shows which tools are available to ensure that the organization is able to reach continuously its main objectives. It is composed by 3 different complementary modules : - The first one is dedicated to the identification of key factor success (KFSs) in the organization and to the analysis of their interactions with a Strategy Map. -The second one is dedicated to the performance monitoring system which may be implemented in the organization, especially by the use of an adequate Balanced ScoreCard. - The third one is at least dedicated to the continuous improvement of operational processes in the organization with the EFQM model.
Learning outcomes of the course :
See above.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
- Management Control (Systems)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Students are grouped in teams of 5 people as a maximum and apply the 3 main tools and techniques discussed during the course, i.e. - a strategy map - a Balanced ScoreCard - an analysis allowing for the continuous improvement of operational processes based upon the EFQM model. They apply these tools in a company or an organization employing between 20 and 100 people, that they select by their own way.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
The course is organized in 6 sessions of 4 hours , structured in 3 modules of 2 sessions. The first of these 2 sessions is organized as a theoretical course during which the why and the hows of each of the different tools and techniques are discussed. The second of these 2 sessions is then dedicated to a debriefing and a discussion with each group as for the evolution of its own case study. It starts on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, from 13.00 to 17.00
Recommended or required readings :
See the Lola Campus of HEC School of Management.
Assessment methods and criteria :
- Continuous valuation of the continuous work of each group : 1/3 - Public defense of the results obtained via the application of the 3 tools discussed during the course : 2/3
