Course contents :  
- Introduction : concepts of epidemiology, analysis of risks
- Environmental factors that may have an effect on health and these effects, and other general points
- Use of water and sanitary risks (chemical risks, microbiological risks, risks from parasites), diseases caused by contaminated water
- Other environmental determinants and health effects (air, soil, food, wild animals, climate change)
- Responses and actions to be taken as regards environmental health (WHO strategies, national plans for action, means of combating diseases of environmental origin, norms, legislation...)
- Application in developing countries (PED), case study regarding water and waste water, case study of urgent situations
Learning outcomes of the course :  
- To make students aware of the importance of environmental quality and its potential impact on the health of populations, and to develop in particular aspects related to water and health
- To provide knowledge allowing students to analyze and to control risks to public health in specific situations in developing countries (PEDs)
- To enable students to carry out expert assessments and establish diagnostic findings with regard to the relationship between health and the environment
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The course will be organised after the course on the microbiological characterisation of kinds of water
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
- Work assignments will be designed with regard to the situation to a country in the South
- Establishment of a relationship of expertise relative to aspects concerning water and air
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
- 12 H in theoretical part of the course
- 12 H of TD
