Course contents :  
a) CMOS integrated circuits and related fabrication technology
b) magnetic and optical information recording
c) description of the "ubiquitous" hardware kernel (i.e. present in all chipsets for compatibility reasons) of P.C.'s.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Knowledge of some general hardware concepts (integrated circuit design and fabrication; magnetic and optical recording as well as the technical evolution of the PCs) found in most information processing equipments.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
personnal project leading to the "hands on" use of CPLD or FPGA from VHDL description.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Face-to-face lectures and problems sessions on Wednesday AM of the fall term.
