Course contents :  
Consumption-production balance, Belgian power system network, interconnection (10h), overhead lines, cables and substations (material used, topologies, design) (10h), apparatuses, insulation coordination, relay protection overview (10h)
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To give a general overview of the management and design of electric power systems (transmission & distribution). SOme details on the belgian network.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Basic lectures in electricity and circuit (Maxwell equations, electric and magnetic field, power, three-phase systems, alternator, motor, transformer). Thermodynamic basic knowledge (heat transfer), applied mechanics, material behaviour in traction, flexion and torsion.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Some typical installations will be visited (substations, cable manufacturing, apparatuses manufacturing), R,L, C computations of actual lines, line design, underground cable design (30 h).
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
1st quadrimester, 2hours basic lectures per week, exrcices by 2 or 4 hours/week
Recommended or required readings :  
Introduction and exercices avaliable at student organisation, remaining parts distributed during lectures.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Examination either in January or June (oral).
Reports asked for exercices.
