Duration :  15h Th
Number of credits :
Master in Chemical Sciences, in-depth approach, 1st yearSecond semester2
Master in Chemical Sciences, didactic approach, 1st yearSecond semester2
Master in Chemical Sciences, specialized approach, 1st yearSecond semester2
Master in Chemical SciencesSecond semester2
Lecturer :  Bénédicte Vertruyen
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
This course is an introduction to the electrical, magnetic and optical properties of solid materials. The relationships between the macroscopic properties and the atomic structure are described without resorting to complex mathematical developments. Examples are chosen in metals, ceramics, glasses and polymers.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The objective of the course is to provide the students with the basic knowledge necessary to get access to more advanced textbooks or literature related to material properties.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
theoretical course illustrated by many exercices involving schemes/figures/tables from literature
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
face-to-face
Recommended or required readings :
A copy of the slides and exercices will be given at the first lecture.
Assessment methods and criteria :
examination about the course itself and one or two articles. These papers are made available at the end of the last lecture.
