CHIM0604-1  Chemistry and organic materials

Duration :  30h Th, 60h Pr
Number of credits :
Master in Chemical Engineering and Materrial Sciences, in-depth approach, 1st yearToute l'année7
Master in Chemical and Material Sciences, specialized approach, 1st yearToute l'année7
Lecturer :  Lionel Delaude
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
The main organic functions (alcane, alkene, alkyne, alcohol, aromatic, halogenoalcane, amine, carboxylic acids and derivatives,...) will be first discussed in terms of molecular structure, electronic characteristics and reactivity. The related organic reactions will then be reported, as well as the important concept of the stereochemistry. All these concepts will be illustrated by examples of organic materials encountered in the day life.
Learning outcomes of the course :
This course aims at introducing the fundamentals in organic chemistry. This strategy rests on the functional-group approach with concrete examples encountered in the everyday life.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
Basic knowledge in chemistry.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Participation to the praticals is mandatory
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Lectures with powerpoint projection will be given during the second semester. The course and laboratories might be partially or totally in English.
Recommended or required readings :
- A copy of the powerpoint presentations will be available to the students

- Textbook:
