Course contents :  
1. The living cell: prokaryotes and eukaryotes 2. Structure of proteins and nucleic acids 3. Replication of DNA - Transcription of DNA - Synthesis of proteins. 4. Functions of proteins. 5. Structure and function of biological membranes. 6. Energy metabolism: photosynthesis, use of glucose and fatty acids.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To give engineering students an introduction to the chemical phenomena that are characteristic of living matter.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Course in general chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry at the candidate level (Bac 2).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Course illustrations with Pymol Tutorials.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
7 classes 2 hours long each.

Written exam.
