Duration :  36h Th, 48h Pr
Number of credits :
Bachelor in bioengineering, 3rd yearToute l'année7
One-year preliminary programme leading to the Master in BioengineeringToute l'année7
Master en sciences agronomiques et industrie du vivant, à finalité approfondie, 1st yearToute l'année7
Master en sciences agronomiques et industrie du vivant, à finalité spécialisée en valorisation biologique des déchets, 1st yearToute l'année7
Lecturer :  Bernard Wathelet
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
Description of the ralation between the different spectrometries.
Quantic theory and Schrödinger equation.
Ultraviolet-visible spectrometry.
Infrared and raman spectrometry.
Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (1H, 13C, 2D).
Mass spectrometry.
Coupled techniques.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Understand theoretical basis of spectrometric methods. Apply these techniques to structural analysis of biological molécules.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- understand phenomenons that govern the different spectrometry : ultra-violet, visible, infrared, raman, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry.
- read and explain spectra obtained by the different techniques
- apply these techniques on corresponding instruments
- identify a molecule from its different spectra
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
CHIM9237-1 - General chemistry
CHIM9240-1 - Organic chemistry (first part)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Exercise of spectra interpretation with different spectroscopies.
Practice of maldi-tof, LC-MS, IR, GC-MS and NMR techniques.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Lectures : 36h
