Course contents :
|
| Atmospheric pollution and its effect on forest ecosystems: acid pollutants, impacts on climate, impacts on forest ecosystems and critical loads. Students deepen information provided in lectures through concept maps, a case study (Forest dieback=an old story?), data analysis (Impact of nitrogen deposition on forest ecosystems). All activities will be integrated into a 'Portfolio' (see 'assessment'). |

| A personal and in-depth analysis of an environmental topic with the use of transversal competencies (work method, literature research, writing skills, data interpretation). |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| Notions on biology/ecology, reading papers in french/english, use of Excel. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| Lectures, case studies with production of concept maps, discussions, data analysis and interpretation, creation of a portfolio |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| Lectures are given in the first 'quadrimestre' (half-days), according to a timetable established with students (please express your interest before 20 september, by e-mail). |

Recommended or required readings :

| Part of the documents needed are available online (pdf of ppt presentations, reference documents). Internet access is needed (equipped computer rooms are available on campus). Students need Ulg email address. Additional literature research is recommended. Reference books are available at the Laboratory of Plant and Microbial Ecology (on-site only, on appointment). |

Assessment methods and criteria :
|
| Assessment will be based on a portfolio realised during this course. A first formative (no marks) evaluation will help you to improve your portfolio. The final version and a discussion of this portfolio will be assessed. |
