Master in Biochemistry and Molecular and Cell Biology, Professional Focus in Industrial Biochemistry, 2nd yearFirst semester5
Master en biochimie et biologie moléculaire et cellulaire, à finalité spécialisée en bioinformatique et modélisation, 2nd yearFirst semester5
Lecturer :  Moreno Galleni
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
During this thematic week, the different resistance mechanisms developed by bacteria against the different classes of clinically used antibiotics will be reviewed. A particular focus will be made on bacterial resistance towards aminoglycosides and inactivators of the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of the bacterial cell wall. The different mechanisms of propagation of the resistance genes will be discussed and their potential biological cost analysed. The methods designed for the rapid detection of resistance mechanisms will be presented. Finally, the techniques recently developed for the design or high throughput screening of new antibiotics will be discussed.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
25 hours of teaching during one week

languages: french/ english
Recommended or required readings :
Power point presentation + overheads
Assessment methods and criteria :
The evaluation will be based on the presentzation and discussion of an original published article.
