| The course aims to present the major historical benchmarks in the evolution of urban form allowing students to develop their understanding of the town and to better comprehend the dynamics of contemporary urbanisation.
The subject requires students to observe the town as a synthesis between the philosophical thought and economic, social and political conditions of each historical period of development.
The evolution of the town is addressed through critical and comparative reading of urban theory and thought which has influenced the future of our regions.
The sector, considered as the basic unit of urban composition, paves the way for questions which cut through historical eras and encourages students to be aware of the challenges which have re-emerged today through the generic theme of the urban landscape.
The methodological elements provided enable students to conduct the contextual readings required to establish any urban project.
The typological approach is extended to all types of lived in spaces and in particular aims to highlight non-built spaces (gardens, courtyards, squares, parks, etc.). These are approached as generators of new spaces in the contemporary town or urban sprawl (B. Secchi). |
