Course contents :  
While semiology has not lived up to the excessive expectations attributed to it by structuralists by becoming the flagship subject among social sciences, it remains nevertheless an indispensable fundamental discipline for those wishing to understand architecture and town planning as a means of communication, as a "language", or to use the Françoise Choay's expression, as a "non-verbal system of signifiers".
This is what we propose to illustrate through the analysis of examples which, from Le Corbusier to Koolhaas, have paved the way for architectural theory from the 20th century to the present day.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Approfondir les connaissances théoriques des étudiants (connaissance de l'architecture contemporaine et théorie de l'architecture) en abordant l'émergence de la postmodernité architecturale sous l'angle du structuralisme et en évaluant les acquis de la sémiologie appliquée à l'art de bâtir.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Le bagage acquis aux cours d' Histoire de l'architecture, de Théorie, de Philosophie, de Sciences humaines ... durant le premier cycle de bachelier.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
en fonction du nombre d'étudiants, le cours sera donné sous forme magistrale (avec l'aide d'un power point, d'extraits de documentaires,...) ou en séminaire.

un portefeuille de lectures sera disponible. Nous nous référerons aussi à Barthes R., L'aventure sémiologique, Seuil, coll. Point essais, 199, à Eco U., La structure absente, Mercure de France, 1984, et au Groupe Mu, Traité du signe visuel, Seuil 1992.
