ARCH1004-1  Parameter-based architecture

Duration :  24h Pr
Number of credits :
Master in architecture (Fusion), 1st yearSecond semester2
Lecturer :  Georges Defawes, Sylvie Jancart
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Course contents :
_ Mathematics and genesis of the shape, the none Euclidian geometries, the 4th dimension, the complex geometrical shapes, the fractals.... Brief history of the influence of the mathematical sciences on the Fine arts and the architecture in particular, modern and contemporary period. _ A customized software or the " line of command" as tool of creation of the architectural forms. Approached softwares, 3DStudio and Sketchup. _ The drawing of fractals, the creation by iteration. _ The transfer of the forms drawn in a software specialy designed for architecture, ArchiCad in particular.
Learning outcomes of the course :
This course will offer students the opportunity to study the mathematical theories underpinning research into the creation of architectural space and form. There will be an introduction to the specific programming language used in modelling software designed to generate and control complex 3-dimensional geometric forms. Students will learn how to use architectural software with a view to creating complex geometric forms.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
A good knowledge of the graphic computing and the 3D modelling is required.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
_ Theoretical presentation of mathematical concepts and historical facts. _ Theoretical presentations followed by exercises, manipulation of softwares. _ Development of personal projects.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
_ Presence required.
Recommended or required readings :
