Course contents :

| The course discuss, in a seminar setting, the questions that arise with the today common process of naturalizing human social life. The first part is devoted to defintions of naturalism as opposed to constructivism in social sciences. The second part presents some elementary informations about evolution theory in biology and discuss the epistemological foundations of evolutionary psychology and some forms of cognitive anthropology. The remaining sessions are devoted to the reading and discussing of the collective book : Roots of human sociality. Culture, cognition and interaction. Oxford, Berg, 2006 |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| At the end of this course, the student will be able to criticize, on the basis of scientific and epistemological grounds, scientific or mass media papers involving the naturalisation of social life. |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| The course is organized as a 2h per week seminar. It will take place at the firs term. Students' participation is expected. Relevant scientific papers will be provided to the students through the MyULg portal. |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| Oral examination.The student will have to produce a founded critic of a paper involving the naturalisation of social life. |
