Course contents :  
This course will first present currents of thought that have been influential in the history of economic anthropology during the 20th century. Secondly, we will deal with forms of exchange, production relationships, and consumption patterns by taking academic debates on these topics as a point of departure. After having studied these three classic themes, we will analyse - on the basis of African case studies - the dynamics of capitalism, the relationship between economy and politics, and the foundations of economic trust.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To introduce students to theories and methods in economic anthropology. At the end of the course students will be able to carry out analyses from an original and critical point of view concerning the economic processes that are going on in our increasingly globalized world.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
To have an interest in rethinking economic analysis, and accordingly, in reflecting with new conceptual tools upon the economic and social changes of our time.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The course will take place during the second term.
Recommended or required readings :  
Students will receive a collection of readings, including articles and book chapters from authors studied in the course.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Oral examination.
