Course contents :
| The course focuses this year on body and person. The subject is wide and we do not aim at a historical approach, nor at a comprehensive overview of the countless variety of local conceptions. Rather, we will start from a detailed analysis of some examples, mostly from Amazonia and Melanesia, in order to present various possible approach levels. They will be discussed both theoretically and methodologically, and systematically related with back insights into the European conceptions and practices. It will include the symbolic construction of bodies and persons, the underlying ontological thoughts, their relationship with perceptual processes and everyday practices, the explicit and the implicit, the universality of European dualisms, the coexistence of distinct, contradictory ontological frameworks. |
Learning outcomes of the course :

| The course presents a subject particularly open to various approaches and a manifold questioning, which could be used later in many other anthropological fields, both here and elsewhere |
