Course contents :
The interdisciplinary approach is necessary if we want to understand relevantly the complexity of the world around us. The decree defining teachers' training (French Community, 2001) highlights the need for teachers to be skilled at disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge alongside team work in schools.
Learning outcomes of the course :
  • Strengthening the constitution of a disciplinary identity and the opening to other subjects.
  • Approaching and understanding some contents in a global point of view.
  • Practicing some collective skills (dialoguing, conciliating points of view, planning team work...)
  • Producing an interdisciplinary pedagogical plan.
  • Developing the necessary conditions for the success of an interdisciplinary pedagogical plan in a school.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
None.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
  • Theoretical talks (aims 1, 2, 5)
  • Production of a work in groups of 4 or 6 students (aims 1, 3)
  • Realization of an interdisciplinary pedagogical plan in group (aims 2, 3, 4 and 5)
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
5 sessions of 3 hours (face-to-face)
Recommended or required readings :
References available in http://www.cifen.ulg.ac.be/agreg/agr_index.htm
A copy of the slides will be held available on MyUlg.
Assessment methods and criteria :
  • Presentation of the pedagogical plan at the fifth session, taking the form of an oral presentation illustrated with posters shown to a jury made up of didactitians and teachers (60% of the final qualification; 50% for the mark given by the jury and 10% for the mark given by other students).
  • Handing in of a collective paper (from 7 to 10 pages) showing synthetically the plan designed (30% of the final qualification).
  • Handing in of an individual reflexive sheet (1 page) testifying of a critical view on interdisciplinarity based on the experience of the seminar and/or the plan designed by the group (10% of the final qualification).
Organizational remarks :
  • The attendance to all the sessions is compulsory because the team work starts the first session. An unjustified absence at one session postpones the work to the next exam session.
  • Having at least one laptop per group from the second session.
  • Bringing some material to realize a poster (4th session).
