ZOOL0229-1  Demography and dynamic of fish populations
Duration :  30h Th
Credits/ECTS :
Master in Biology of organism and ecology, in-depth approach, 2nd yearToute l'année3
Holder(s) :  Michaël Ovidio
Language :  French language
Course contents :  Demography and population dynamics are ecological disciplines whose object is to study the variations over time of populations in terms of characteristics such as the structure of populations, population increase, mortality and survival, fecundity, recruitment of age classes and population movement through emigration and immigration. The problems of population dynamics arise in a variety of contexts such as : populations in equilibrium, declining populations, natural and artificial rebuilding of populations, and populations of voluntarily or involuntarily introduced species.
Course objective :  At the end of the course the student should have acquired basic notions about demography and populations dynamics of fresh-water fish and will have participated in experiments in the field concerning important situations.
Prerequisites :  Basic knowledge of animal biology is desired.
Mastery of the French language.
Workshops :  Active participation in field activities and laboratory activities :

- Electronic fish inventory.
- Techniques for marking fish.
- Monitoring of migratory movements of fish.
Organization :  To be determined in consultation with students.
Written notes :  Power Point slide shows available.
Assessment :  Oral examination.
