| Course contents : | This course aims to illustrate from a practical point of view the legal basis and the principles and the referentials of official controls, inspection, audit and certification in the food chain. A clear differnce will be estableshed between inspection and certification, in an official context or not. Theoretical reminds will be given, in order to show the mission of each person or body in inspection and certification, while the role of the inspector vet in the controls of the food chain wil be emphasized. Role and missions of foreign certification bodies will be also explained. A top-down approach wil be folloowed, while presenting the controls available in and outside the European Union (controls in Member States and foreign countries which may export food to the European Union). The student will clearly understand that thses principles may be applied throughout the food chain : from the primary sector to distribution. Here is a quick view of the course organization:

| Course objective : | As mentioned above, the course will help to understand the missions of competent authorities, in the context of inspection and certification. The student will have to understand the difference between inspection and certification, to see we apply one norm and the other. A critical view will be applied when examining ofiicial control programmation and schedule establisher by the competent authority (AFSCA in Belgium). Form a pratical point of view, the student will gain exprience in skills in relation with audits and inspection and to be acquainted with the work of official controlers. |
