Pharmacokinetics investigates the absorption, diffusion, metabolisation and elimination of drugs but also of xenobiotics. Mechanisms of action of the active compounds are also investigated in detail (pharmacodynamics). The course is planned in order to understand the drugs induced-effects . The general pharmacology is first considered. The pharmacology of the different systems is discussed at the end of the course. The general properties of drugs are related to their potential therapeutical use taking into account the safety for target species, consumers and environnement. The concept of the quality of the drugs is considered in the context of the current legal framework. Public health and environmental problems are also discussed. |
 |
| Course objective : | The aims are:
- to give an overview of fundamental pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics,
-to describe the pharmacological properties of the active compunds,
-to give the keys leading to a rational use of drugs within a scientific, clinical and legal framework taking into account the animal health, public health and environment. |
 |
| Prerequisites : | basic scientific matters especially biochemistry, physiology, immunology, bacteriology, virology, biology... and general pathology |
 |
| Workshops : | Seminars are organized to develop some specific aspects as drug legislation and pharmacokinetics related to medicinal products formulations.
Attendance at seminars is compulsory and essential for admission to examinations. No seminars are held between the two sessions. A refusal of admission to the first session automatically implies the refusal to the second session. |
