| Course contents : | Dead animals, issued from the clinics or submitted for necropsy by field practitioners are choice material for student training. Over 1300 necropsies of domestic animals and wildlife are routinely performed every day. |

| Course objective : |
- To identify and to describe lesions, to correlate lesions and diseases in the various systems and organs.
- To evaluate differential lesions diagnoses and to deduct a cause of death.
- To propose or to confirm an etiologic diagnosis and to decide on relevant associated procedures.
- To learn how to write a necropsy report using appropriate medical terms and to discriminate between the relative importance of the various observations.

| Prerequisites : | Theoretical medical background taught in 1st and 2nd doctorate in association with the various clinics is an essential prerequisite. |
|
| Organization : | Organized by clinical rounds completed by additional duties covering the session of exams in June. Students presence is requested every day of the week from 8:30AM to 12:00 noon. Each clinic is in charge of about 10 students per week. The rotation carrousel is available at the beginning of each academic year. |

| Written notes : | There is no specific handout. |
|
| Assessment : | Evaluation takes place in 3rd doctorate only. A specific, formal exam on a dead animal and a written descriptive report can be demanded. Students are also evaluated throughout the internal stage period. In pathology, an evaluation note is given during the rotation week and the choice is given to the student to complete it by a formal exam. Conditions are available at the department secretary's office. |

| Remarks : | Presence to the clinics is mandatory, every day of the week. Justified absences must be communicated beforehand to the department secretary's office. Any unjustified absence will be considered as such during the final deliberation on the student's performance. Medical certificates will be forwarded to the student's administration office as soon as possible. |
