Credits/ECTS :
Master in Veterinary Medicine, 2nd yearToute l'année5
Holder(s) :  Daniel Desmecht

Course contents :  The most frequent lesions and dysfunctions of digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, urinary, nervous, endocrine and musculo-squelettal systems and of the skin, blood and lymphoid organs are successively described in the pig, horse, dog, cat and ruminants.
Course objective :  The objective of the course is to make the student familiar with the functional and morphological changes that underlie the clinical presentation of animal diseases. In this context, the course specifically describes how the basic knowledge acquired in general pathology applies to each of the systems, and that with a perspective across species.
Prerequisites :  The theoretical course and the practical lectures in histology and general pathology given during the preceding years of the cursus.
Organization :  The course includes three distinct parts : (i) the theoretical course, (ii) the practical histopathology exercises, and (iii) the necropsy clinic. The theoretical course included 30 hours given in amphitheatre. The practical exercises consist in 22 lessons, each devoted to a distinct subject. The agenda and the titles of the lessons can be found at http://www2.fmv.ulg.ac.be/pathsp3.htm. Each lesson consists of (i) a commented presentation of histopathological slides characteristic of the subject and (ii) a supervised individual evaluation of the same slides. Finally, an active presence in the necropsy clinic, according to the program established by the Faculty, is absolutely necessary to understand the course.
