From the legal issues, architectural requirements are discussed in terms of functionnal units: reception structures, intensive care, examination rooms and transient hospitalisation. Thereafter, the fundamental and specific roles of the emergency hospital service are investigated: -the Gatekeeper -the Safety network Finally, the general principles governing the participation of the emergency medical service to the disaster planing are desribed (MASH planing).
