| Duration : | |
| Credits/ECTS : |
| Holder(s) : | Valérie Gabelica |
| Language : | French language |
| Course contents : | The activities related to this course are distributed in two parts: 1- Bilan de compétence : Evaluation of the basic chemistry notions (physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and organic chemistry). 2- Individual work : the student is doing an internship in one the research labs of the Chemistry Department, under the supervision of a researcher. The student makes experiments, exploits his data and bibliography, takes complete lab notes.
3- Communnication: A seminar focused on short presentations is organized before the internship. At the end of the semester, the research results will be presented to the whole Chemistry Department in a poster session. |
| Course objective : | To give a first introduction to research in a chemical laboratory, including the writing of a laboratory notebook, and to underline the necessity of mastering all basic chemistry knowledge acquired previously. |
| Prerequisites : | The goal of the written examinations (bilan de compétences) is not to force the student to study again all the previous courses, but to test how they naturally master the basic concepts, those that can never be forgotten. |
| Workshops : | 2 times 2 days in a research laboratory. Additional days are available in the program if the work could not be completed in these four days. |
| Organization : | Two written exams are organized. A discussion of the first test will be done between the two. If the student has obtained a grade equal or higher than 12, he can keep his note, otherwise he takes the second test. The laboratory work takes place in March. The poster session is the Wednesday following Easter holidays. The laboratory notebook is also given that day. |
| Written notes : | None |
| Assessment : | The final grade will be calculated as follows: - Written exams (1/3) - Laboratory work evaluated by the mentor: everyday work (1/6), lab notebook (1/6) - Presentation of the research evaluated by the whole department: clarity of presentation (1/6), correctness of answers to questions (1/6). |
