| Course contents : | The lecture, 10 sessions of 2 hours, starts with a short presentation of the social and historical background with references to different elements still affecting behaviour and as such affecting international relations. Next, we study the evolution of the Euro-Asian space, starting from the Kievan Russ, then moving on to Moscovia, the birth and death of the Russian empire and of the USSR, the split into 15 independent new states with specificities regarding their relations with the world and Russia and between themselves, and the formation of new regional organisations. Here again the accent is put on the consequences of those factors for today's policies.
The lecture then moves on to the elements of rupture and continuity with the Soviet period, the new threats affecting the republics and the way they respond to them; the actors of foreign policy; and the external elements affecting those policies.
The last sessions consist of a systematic review of the foreign policy and security doctrines of the republics, bearing in mind the peculiar regional situation and international pressures. |
