Course contents :  The course aims to place the contemporary realities of work in a historical perspective, and to initiate the students in the practice of historical research.
The course is made up of two parts.
  • After a brief reminder of the characteristics of the historical process and the contribution it can make to students and researchers in the social sciences, the first part of the course begins with an introduction to occupational health and safety history.
  • The second part of the course takes the form of a condensed historical seminar where the students are called upon to deal with a precise point relating to a historical question, using different kinds of sources (archives, oral testimonies). In 2010-2011, the seminar will deal with compensation for occupational diseases.
Assessment :  Assessment will consist of a discussion, in the light of the course, on written work handed in at the end of the seminar.
