Course contents :  The course is an introduction to sociology of migration and ethnicity through the study of some of the main texts of the discipline drawn both from American and European sociology.
Course objective :  The aim of the course is to provide the students with a theoretical basis as well as with a global picture of the classical American and European literature in the field of sociology of migration and ethnicity.
Prerequisites :  A passive and active knowledge of written and spoken English is indispensable.

Workshops :  The students will be required to write several short papers discussing articles allocated by the teacher.
PRESENCE IN CLASS IS MORE THAN HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Organization :  The course could use 3 pedagogical tools:
- Lectures by the teachers
- Seminars based on the reading and discussion of texts as well as on presentations made by students
-Lectures given by external guests.The course will take place once a week from February 2011

Assessment :  First session: written papers (75%) + a written examination (75%)
