Course contents :  This seminar consists of a series of conferences given by specialists on contemporary China, followed by discussions around the themes treated. Each theme will be preceded by readings. The themes covered in particular will be:
- the challenges of demographics;
- the development of civil society;
- the socio-economic model of development in China;
- the environmental question in relation to "non-governmental organisations";
Course objective :  The seminar aims to allow students to deepen their knowledge of the major challenges of development and population in the People's Republic of China, in order to highlight them in their professional lives.

Written notes :  A wide range of ethnographic material will be used (posters, slogans, official documents, press cuttings, scientific articles, popular literature, video documents etc.) as well as photographs will be shown in slide shows (Powerpoint).

A collection of scientific texts will be made available to students. These should be used as reading material to prepare for each class.
Assessment :  The exam will consist of an oral and written presentation relating to the themes covered.
