| Course contents : | The concept of complexity is closely linked to a contemporary world which is often described as changing and unstable. It also underlies the evolution of knowledge, the increase in the volume of knowledge and its division. This course aims to reflect upon the definition of complex thought, as well as its relevance and limitations. |

| Course objective : | the course aims to make students aware of the problem of complexity as posed by Edgar Morin, in order to discover the idea of "reliance", with a view to applying this to professional practice. |

| Prerequisites : | knowledge of basic sociological and social science concepts, general scientific education, good grasp of written English. |

| Organization : | 15 hours of classes in the second term of 2010-2011. Timetable to be confirmed. |

| Written notes : | A reading portfolio (adapted to the number of classes) will be provided. Recommended reading. |

| Assessment : | Oral examination based on a piece of written work on a general question set at the start of the class. |
