Course contents :  This is a lecture seminar that will review the key areas of entrepreneurship research.

Session 1: Introduction to the entrepreneurship research issues
This session aims to develop a better understanding of the discipline of entrepreneurship, its objectives and methodologies and its relationships with other established disciplines. This session will analyze the boundaries of entrepreneurship research and introduce the different types of research questions the discipline attempts to address. Several perspectives will be introduced like: (1) The economic perspective (Schumpeter 1950, Baumol 1993, Kirchoff 1991 and Audretsch 2002), (2) the finance perspective (Brophy and Shulman 1992), (3) the sociology and anthropology perspectives (Reynolds 1991 and Stewart 1991) and the strategy perspective (Hills 1992 and Sandberg 1992).

Session 2: The entrepreneurship finance research perspective This session aims to develop a better understanding of the financial issues specific to entrepreneurial firms. It will review the fundamental questions addressed by the financial literature in terms of the entrepreneurial firm. A major source of "inspiration" for this session will draw from the publications in "the journal of private equity".

Session 3: The entrepreneurship strategy research perspective
This session aims to develop a better understanding of the special strategic challenges of new firms or firms newly entering industries and of some of the literature that has attempted to address these issues. It will also assess in what way the treatment of strategy in entrepreneurial settings has been different from its treatment in other settings.

Session 4: The entrepreneurship growth research perspective
This session aims to identify the key contribution regarding the growth of entrepreneurial firms. It aims at understanding the range of models to explain and help predict growth pattern in entrepreneurial companies, their perspectives, assumptions, contributions and limitations. Three majors issues will be analyzed in that context: (1) the role of the entrepreneur (background and motivation), (2) the drives of born global firms and (3) the specific dimensions of business strategy supporting high growth. To remain within reasonable bounds, the session will focus on models of early growth.

Session 5: The opportunity recognition research perspective
This session aims to develop a better understanding of one of the central research topic in entrepreneurship, namely: opportunity recognition. This will give participants a chance to review the key contributions that have focuses on the entrepreneur as an individual and that are driving from social-psychology. We will also address interesting body of literature that has look at ethnic entrepreneurship as special view on opportunity.

Session 6: The entrepreneurship education research perspective
This session aims to develop a better understanding at what should be taught when teaching entrepreneurship. Does one teach to become an entrepreneur. It will review the recent research in pedagogy that has made a key distinction between "enterprising" as entrepreneurial attitudes that important to succeed his life and "entrepreneurship" as key technical competences to launch a company and succeed in life.

Session 7: Avenues for future research in entrepreneurship
This is a wrap-up session. It will give participants a chance to set back from what they have learned from the seminar, to assess the relevant methodologies used, to develop a better comprehension of what makes good research in this emerging field. The session will also be the occasion for participants to present and discuss their working papers with their peers.

Each session will be held in half a day.
Organization :  This seminar is based on readings preparations and class presentations and discussions.
Assessment :  Participants are supposed to write a working paper for presentation in class
