| Course contents : | The course is based on one hand on interactive discussions including the analysis of cases, and on the other hand on demonstrations and practical training.
* Interactive discussions (including the analysis of real situations) concerning : - the organization of emergency medical system in Belgium (obligation to provide help, call centre for emergencies 100/112, Ambulance Crew, Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU), hospital of destination) - general rules of intervention (safety, evaluation, alarm, care, ...) - the equipment for reanimation in the dentist's room (oxygen and devices of administration, mask barrier, automatic external defibrillation, ...) - prevention of accidents (medical file, consultation of allergo-anaesthesia, collaboration with the anaesthetist in the hospital, ...)
* Practical training (between students, on adult, children and babies mannequins, and by simulations) - Detection of vital functions deterioration (consciousness, breathing, circulation) - Basic life support (mouth-to-mouth ventilation and with mask barrier, chest compressions, different methods of oxygen administration) - Techniques of handling of victim (recovery position and other waiting positions, turn the victim on his back, victim displacement by the Rauteck's technique) - Restauration of the vital functions (Automatic External Defibrillation - AED).
Notice This course being very practical, the participation in each course is essential. |

| Course objective : | At the end of the course, the future dentist will have to be able to anticipate, recognize and deal with the various acute situations with which he can be confronted, in particular in the dentist's room: - Problems related to previous pathologies of the patient (cardiac affections, circulatory and respiratory troubles, allergies, diabetes, epilepsy, ¿) - Problems related to the activity of the dentist (inhalation of foreign bodies, blood, secretions, obstruction of the higher respiratory tract, reactions related to local anaesthesias, ¿). - He will also be equipped with the basic material essential to face these acute situations. |

| Organization : | The dates are fixed in collaboration with the President of the Dental Department of Medicine. The courses are given in the CHU Sart Tilman, room Marcel Hanquet, central block, 2nd level. |

| Written notes : | In complement to the syllabus "Premiers Secours", notes "Urgences au cabinet dentaire" and "Pièges des anesthésies locales" will be distributed during the courses. |

| Assessment : | Oral and practical examination (with didactic material and equipment of reanimation). |
