Course contents :  The course is an introduction to rangelands management in hot climates. The following topics are covered : organography of grasses, the main forage species in tropical environments, basic techniques to measure productivity of pasture and their management when grazed with ruminants. Besides the lectures, the student are asked to do some practicals in the classroom and on the field so they can better understand the content of the course.
Course objective :  Giving the students the farming basic knowledge necessary to the fodder crop production and describing the principal forage resources in tropical regions.
After completing the course the student is expected to
- to master the organography and the physiology of the grass
- to know the main grass species and their characteristics in the different tropical regions
- to establish and manage fodder crops in these regions
Prerequisites :  -- BV101 - Botany
-- BV102 - Plant physiology
-- GP201 - Pedology
Workshops :  In the classroom and on field. Botanical survey of pastures. Interpretation of surveys. Use of aerial pictures and teletedection methods in pasture management. Productivity and carrying capacity.

Assessment :  Oral examination (100%)
