| Course contents : | The thesis provides students with the opportunity to prove their ability to carry out a personal, original and rigorous piece of research on the basis of a corpus of limited sources. It demonstrates that they have acquired the elementary critical competences required by all historians. Therefore, this undertaking will not in any way correspond to a compilation of existing works, but will establish the student's ability to question the past, base their questioning on recent historiography and clearly and correctly communicate the nd correctly commi lning in erion of existing works, but will establish that the result of their research. |

| Course objective : | The preparation for the master's thesis is not the subject of a specific course, but takes place within the framework of the practical classes with exercises on history questions, especially critical history. |

| Workshops : | See Course objective. Students are invited to regularly submit the results of their research, as well as corrected pages, to their adviser and to the other members of their thesis committee. |

| Assessment : | See General overview. The defence of their thesis will allow students to briefly present their work (approx. five minutes), hear the remarks of their committee members, and answer their questions. The assessment will also relate to this oral and public defence. It is not simply a question of summarising the thesis submitted; students must remind the panel of the interest of the problem, the way in which it was handled, the results obtained, the possible avenues that would allow the research to be expanded, the limits of the research, etc. |
